News of my involvement in Artwave, the art festival in and around Lewes
I am appearing at the Hive again this year. There is a really exciting mix of artist there with me this year
Mark Greco is back after a two year absence. Mark's art is a monthly treat in the brilliant Viva Lewes magazine, illustrating Michael Blenco's 'Wildlife' article.
Phoebe Sherwood-Moore, exhibiting for the first time at the Hive is a Lewes based Jeweller who deserves far more recognition in her home town - with her beautiful award winning jewellery inspired by the natural world around us.
Rachel Bell the maker of the beautiful porcelain night lights and light shades- which spring to sparkling life with the addition of a light or candle- revealing honey toned wonders delicately pressed into the clay.
Adele Scantlebury, another print maker who is joining the Hive for her first Artwave exhibition- records her views of our corner of Sussex in lively wood cuts and engravings engravings.
Steve Alton's beautiful water colours, reveal his intimate knowledge of the Ashdown Forest- Steve is not only a published author of quite a collection of childrens books, but also the head of ecology and conservation on the afore mentioned Ashdown Forest.
Deryn Bell returns after last years huge success at the Hive - she had sold almost all of her work during the first week of Artwave last year!- beautifully observed sculptures inspired, as all of the artist in this years show- by the natural world.
I am excited to announce that Viva Lewes will feature a new engraving I have just finished, on it's front cover for the September issue- the original will be available to buy during artwave, hand printed in the very limited edition of 50. I'll be there every Saturday, demonstrating how I go about the art of wood engraving. I'll bring my Adana printing press along too, for any who wants to try their hand at the craft of the hand printing.
Through out Artwave we will be running a raffle to win a hamper of art- each Hive artist will donate an item - I'm donating the first edition of the Viva print, pop in to find what else the hamper contains. All the proceeds of the raffle will be donated to the Friends of Lewes' Lewes Urban Arboretum project: More Details Here
We're taking part in the First Friday - which will be an evening of Launch parties across the town with many venues opening there doors to the public - it should be a really exciting way to launch this years festival. All the artist at the Hive will be there to meet you and introduce their art to you from 5pm to 9pm. Hope you can make it along. More details of this, maps and venues for this years Artwave can be found HERE
Really look forward to meeting you at some point over the festival!
